How Can Someone Know So Many Christians and Still Not Know Jesus?
A piece of my prayer journal from May 7th, 2021
In a world with more resources than ever to connect people, why do we feel so distant from one another? Why are so many relationships surface-level, barely scratching the depth of real connection?
I’m not writing this blog with all the answers. Instead, I’m writing it as an encouragement for deep reflection. I’m writing it as a plea to step away from screens and truly engage with the people around us. I’m writing it to challenge you to call instead of text, to have real conversations instead of settling for quick exchanges. And, most importantly, I’m writing it as a reminder (to you, and) to myself—not to let my relationship with Christ become surface-level or lukewarm.
Almost four years ago, tragedy struck our community. It was one of those moments that shakes you, forcing you to reflect on what really matters.
On the morning of May 7, 2021, I sat at my showroom desk, wrestling with emotions that I couldn’t shake. I opened my prayer journal and wrote these words:
Part of my prayer journal entry from…

LORD—I pray for the community and those affected by [the tragedy - omitted out of respect for those affected]. I didn’t know them but saw we had multiple mutual connections. I also saw that many of them were Christians. I wonder… how can someone know so many Christians and not know you? How could I have been in this person’s life and how could I have introduced them to you? So many thoughts flood my head. I didn’t know them, but in many ways feel responsible… I feel there is more that I can do. Show me how I can use these gifts you’ve given me to help others, introduce them to you, make you the leader of my life and their’s. Help those affected by this tragedy.
That question still lingers in my heart today:
How can someone know so many Christians and still not know Jesus?
This isn’t about questioning someone’s heart, but about reflecting on whether we, as believers, are truly living in a way that introduces people to Jesus. Are we embodying His love? Are we intentional about sharing who He is—not just in words, but in how we live?
I don’t fear much, but if there’s one thing that does weigh heavy on my heart, it’s this: the idea of someone I know facing Jesus and saying, “No one ever told me about You.”
I can’t recall the exact number of mutual connections I had with the individual, but I remember it being significant. I remember being surprised that I didn’t know them personally. And it made me wonder—how many people are just outside our reach? Or worse… how many people are within our reach daily, yet we fail to share Jesus with them?
The Responsibility We Carry
If you’re a Christian, are you actively sharing the gospel? Are you looking for opportunities to introduce people to Jesus? Are you asking Him to open doors for those conversations?
Has the LORD put someone on your heart?
If so, reach out to them. We get so caught up in the busyness of life that we forget to check in on our friends, our family, and even those we meet in passing—people we assume are doing just fine.
Let’s not wait for a tragedy to remind us of what matters most. Let’s be intentional now—about our faith, our friendships, and the way we love others.
Because real connection isn’t about how many people we know. It’s about how deeply we invest in the people God has placed in our lives.
A Final Note
I write this with deep respect, knowing I cannot fully understand this individual’s physical, mental, or spiritual condition. It’s not my place to make assumptions—I have my own battles, too. My heart in writing this is simply to encourage you to do two things:
Strive for a deeper relationship with Jesus.
Strive for deeper connections with those around you.
Share Jesus.
Romans 10:13-14 NIV
13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”[a]
14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?
